When I read this, I understand it as meaning family. Family is something that makes sense to me. It is so present to me and it is what sustains me. Of course, John, who you might remember was the only apostle at the cross of Jesus--there with Mary, was very close to Jesus. Family.
May our understanding of family inform how we treat others, with patience and kindness and all the other powerful qualities that go so far beyond the mere feeling we call love.
Today, I will work on being patient and kind to others as a sign of my love.
